Umbara Orchard Lakes
Four large lakes
Ludhiana, Punjab · Commission Status
Biosphere's largest project to date - four decorative lakes at the centre of Umbara Group's 250-acre township. Biosphere scope complete September 2025; final landscape and aquatic planting expected July 2026. Full case study to follow.

The Beach Pond

A 250-square-foot Bio Swim Pond, built next to a prefabricated house designed by the client - an architect with an unusual brief: a beach entrance, so the family dog could walk into the water and swim alongside his daughter.
A beach entrance - a shoreline sloping gently into the water - is what made this pond work for the whole household, two-legged and four-legged. Small, complete ecosystem, the same engineering as our larger ponds, scaled to a compact garden footprint.

The Narrow Garden Pond
Koi and dip pond · Coimbatore · December 2023
A 200-square-foot pond, three feet deep, fitted into the tight space between the house and the boundary wall. The pond holds koi and a few other fish - and the children of the family dip in the same water, alongside the koi. One pond, one body of water, shared.

A 12-foot stream runs alongside, with a cascade overlooking the main hall and the stream running right next to the bedroom - so the sound of moving water reaches the rooms that matter. An OASE skimmer keeps maintenance light.

The Cantilever Pond

A 450-square-foot Bio Swim Pond at the heart of Coimbatore, at the entrance of the house, with a cantilever deck reaching out over the water.
No space for a conventional bog - so the engineering changed. The pond runs on an OASE Screenmatic filtration system paired with our own floating wetland, doing the biological work a fixed bog would have done without needing the ground space. Proof that swim ponds work where conventional approaches won't fit.

The Irrutukadai Cascade
PONDLESS CASCADE AND STREAM · TIRUNELVELI · MARCH 2025
A pondless cascade with a 10-foot stream at the entrance of the home of the family behind Irrutukadai, Tirunelveli's famous halwa shop. Built into a compact 10-by-20-foot entrance footprint.
Water moves over stone, runs the length of the stream, and disappears into a hidden reservoir - no open pond, no standing water, just moving water greeting everyone who arrives. The right answer for a small, high-traffic entrance.

The Forest-Edge Pond

A 1,500 sq ft Bio Swim Pond near Magadi, Bangalore - larger than the founder's own pond at Pollachi. Filtered with a 300 sq ft bog and two small cascades linking the bog to the swim pond. A deck cantilevers from the master bedroom over the water.
Set between a Miyawaki forest on one side and a compressed-earth, lime-plastered natural home on the other - the landscape context of the pond is as deliberate as the engineering.

The UNESCO Heritage Village - Kanadukatan
Bio Swim Pond with cascade · Karaikudi district · Biosphere scope complete April 2026 · Landscape settling
A 750 sq ft swim pond with a cascade, built for a four-room Chettinad-style Airbnb property in Kanadukathan, the UNESCO-listed heritage village in Karaikudi district.
The pond is built into the property's traditional Karaikudi-style architecture, working alongside the village's distinctive built heritage and limestone landscape.
