Bio Swim Ponds in India

A wild lake, brought home

Bio swimming ponds, built as living ecosystems. Chemical-free, plant-filtered, and shaped into the land rather than set on top of it. Built to last a generation.

What it actually is

A Bio Swim Pond isn't a pool dressed up to look natural. It's the other way around — a natural pond that happens to be safe, clear, and engineered to swim in.

There's no tile and no concrete shell. Stone meets the water at the edge. Plants take the shallows where the light reaches. A separate swim zone, deep enough to disappear into. Everything else does what ponds have always done — except the biology is designed, not left to chance.

It's the natural swimming pond as it's built across Europe and North America, adapted for Indian sites, Indian climate, and Indian plants.

How it holds itself together

Two zones, one system.

The swim zone is where you go in — open water, gravel and stone underfoot, room to move. Alongside it sits the regeneration zone: a shallow, planted shelf where the aquatic plants and mineral substrates do the filtration. Water moves between the two continuously through a cascade. The plants feed on what would otherwise cloud the water, and the water stays clear, soft, and alive.

This is a chemical-free pool in the truest sense. No chlorine. No salt cell. No backwash. The pond is the filter.

The pumps and controls are German-engineered for continuous duty. The hydraulic and biological design is our own, sized to your site.

Shaped, not poured

Bio Swim Ponds are shaped, not poured. Boulders are set, not faced. Edges are planted in. Cascades run between levels. Give it a season or two and the pond stops looking built and starts looking found, which is really the point.

It's the right form for sites where the land has room to breathe. Larger plots. Sloped ground. Places where water is meant to belong to the landscape, not sit on top of it.

What you can expect

Water that's gentle on your skin and easy on your eyes. Safe for fish if you'd like them.

A swim zone that reads as open water — not the inside of a tank.

Planting at the bog that changes through the year. It'll look different in March and August, and that's the whole point.

Cascades, streams, and shallows woven in wherever the site allows.

Maintenance that looks more like gardening than pool chemistry.

Running costs well below a chlorinated pool of the same size.

Where a Bio Swim Pond belongs

A farmhouse on the edge of the city. A villa on a hillside. A resort where the water is the experience, not an amenity on the list. A weekend estate where the brief is something like — make it feel like the land was always this way.

These are the sites a natural swimming pond is designed for. Where there's room. Where the landscape leads. Where the water is meant to feel found rather than placed.

Most of our clients come to us with a piece of land before they come with a brief. The brief tends to form as we walk the site together.

It's the most considered eco-friendly pool alternative being built in India today, and it's a larger project than a Bio Swimming Pool. More land, more stonework, more planting. That's reflected in where the budget starts.

How a Bio Swim Pond comes together

1

Project Assessment

We walk the site, listen to the brief, and test it against what the engineering needs—slope, sun, soil, scale, water table. Paid preliminary stage. If we proceed, it credits to the project.

2

Design

Layout, levels, the shape of the swim zone, the position of the regeneration zone, the planting palette, the stone. Drawings you can build from.

3

Construction

Excavation, liner, hydraulics, stonework, planting. Built once, built to last.

4

Establishment

The ecosystem takes a season to settle into balance — the water clarifies, the plants take hold, the system finds itself. We stay on through that period so you're not left wondering whether what you're seeing is normal.

A note on what we don't do

We build new. We don't retrofit existing pools, and we don't convert ponds that weren't engineered for swimming.

The reason is simple — substrate depth, regeneration sizing, hydraulic flow all have to be planned from the start. Without that, you end up with a pond that struggles to stay clear instead of one that takes care of itself. Better not to start.

Often part of something larger

A swim pond rarely arrives alone on the sites it suits. A cascade through the upper garden. A stream connecting it to a koi pond by the verandah. A lake at the far edge of the property, with the pond as the place you actually swim.

Every element can be designed and engineered as one continuous system.

  • A Bio Swim Pond is a natural swimming pond—a body of water that’s filtered biologically by aquatic plants and mineral substrates rather than chlorine or salt. It looks like a natural lake or pond, with a defined swim zone at the centre and a planted regeneration zone alongside it. The water is clear, soft, and safe to swim in year-round.

  • Both are chemical-free swimming pools, but they look and feel very different. A Bio Swimming Pool is tiled, structured, and reads as a modern pool—the biology is hidden. A Bio Swim Pond is shaped from the landscape, with stone edges and planted margins; the biology is visible.

  • Yes. Our Bio Swim Ponds in India are engineered specifically for local conditions—water temperature, monsoon load, evaporation, and the aquatic plants that thrive here. The biological system is sized and stocked for the climate it lives in, not lifted from a European template.

  • The opposite. Mosquitoes need still water; a Bio Swim Pond is continuously moving and oxygenated, which prevents breeding. Dragonflies and other natural predators are typically attracted to the ecosystem, providing additional pest control.

  • Bio Swim Ponds start at ₹30 Lakhs. Where a specific project lands depends on size, stonework, planting, the cascades and streams that come with it, and what the site itself demands. You'll have a firm number after the Project Assessment — not before.

  • Less than a chlorinated pool, and of a different kind. You’ll prune aquatic plants seasonally and clear the skimmers as you would on any pool. There’s no chemistry to balance, no chlorine to add, no shock treatments. Running costs are significantly lower than a conventional pool of comparable size.

  • No. We build new construction only. The engineering of a natural swimming pond—substrate depth, regeneration zone sizing, hydraulic design—has to be planned from the ground up. Conversions don’t perform the way a properly engineered system does.

  • Typically two to four months from design sign-off to handover, depending on size, site access, and the scope of stonework and planting. The ecosystem then takes one full season to mature into its final clarity.

Start with an assessment

Before any drawing, before any quote — we evaluate site, brief, and budget against what the engineering requires.  If the fit is right, we proceed. If it isn't, we say so.
