Bio Swimming Pools in India

A pool, without the chemistry

Tiled, structured, unmistakably a swimming pool — filtered by biology, not chlorine. Modern architecture, ecological engineering, built across India.

from ₹25 Lakhs

The pool, rewritten

A Bio Swimming Pool looks the way you'd expect a pool to look. Tiled floor. Defined edges. Clean geometry. A skimmer at one end, a return at the other.

What's missing is the chemistry. No chlorine. No salt cell. No daily testing, no shocked-eyes after a swim, no smell on skin afterwards. The water is kept clear by a hidden biological filter — a planted regeneration zone, mineral substrates, and a circulation system doing quietly what plant communities have done in healthy water bodies for as long as there have been water bodies.

It's a chemical-free pool that doesn't ask you to compromise on what a pool feels like.

How the biology does the work

Every Bio Swimming Pool runs on a primary biological filter and an enhanced secondary system, designed together as one ecosystem.

Primary

The bog filter

Water moves continuously through a planted gravel bed sitting beside or beneath the pool. The aquatic plants and the microbial community living on the substrate consume the nitrogen and phosphorus that would otherwise feed algae. It's the same job chlorine does, but without sterilising the water, and without the smell or the sting.

Secondary

UV and ozone, sized for Indian conditions

India is harder on pool water than most of the world. The ambient temperature is higher, the monsoon load is heavier, the water that fills the pool is more variable. We add a sized UV sterilisation stage, and where the brief calls for it, an in-line ozone stage as well. Both engineered for the climate the pool is actually built in, not lifted from a European template. The result is a pool that stays crystal clear through a 40°C summer and an August storm alike.

Equipment

German pumps, in-house controls

We specify OASE pumps as standard — quiet, efficient, built for continuous duty. The hydraulic and electrical design is our own, sized to the project.

What you can expect

A pool that reads as a pool — tile, stone, or concrete finishes, sharp edges, clean lines. None of the visual cues of a pond.

Water that's soft on skin and gentle on eyes. The kind of water you'd happily let a small child swallow a mouthful of without thinking twice.

No chlorine, no salt, no shock treatment, no daily chemistry. No pool guy showing up three times a week.

A regeneration zone that does all the filtration — planted, but designed to disappear into the architecture. Either visible as a planter feature, or tucked out of sight behind a wall or under a grating.

Infinity edges, beach entries, vanishing-edge spillways, integrated spas, where the brief calls for them.

Running costs well below a chlorinated pool of comparable size.

Where a Bio Swimming Pool belongs

Rooftops and courtyards. Modern villas where the architecture leads and the pool needs to hold the line. Boutique hotels and wellness retreats where the brief calls for a pool but the values rule out chlorine. Homes built around clean geometry, where a stone-edged pond would feel wrong, and a conventional pool feels like a chemical compromise you're no longer willing to make.

It's the cleanest expression of the natural pool form — the right answer for sites where the pool needs to look like a pool.

Most of the clients who choose a Bio Swimming Pool have spent time researching what's actually in their water before they came to us. They tend to have read about chlorine and trihalomethanes, or watched a child come out of a hotel pool with red eyes one too many times, or simply decided that what works for a public pool doesn't belong in their own home. The conversation usually starts already a long way in.

How a Bio Swimming Pool comes together

1

Project Assessment

We walk the site, listen to the brief, and test it against what the engineering needs — footprint, plant-room location, sun and shade, the structure underneath. Paid preliminary stage. If we proceed, the fee credits to the project.

2

Design

Pool geometry, finishes, the position and size of the regeneration zone, the filtration scheme, the equipment schedule. Drawings you can build from.

3

Construction

Civil works, waterproofing, tile or stone, filtration build, equipment install, planting. Built once, built to last.

4

Establishment

The ecosystem takes a few weeks to settle into balance. We stay on through that period and hand over with a clear maintenance plan, so you know exactly what looking after the pool means in practice.

A note on what we don't do

We build new. We don't retrofit chlorinated pools, and we don't convert tanks that weren't engineered for biological filtration.

The reason is simple. Substrate volumes, regeneration zone sizing, hydraulic flow, equipment selection — these have to be planned together from the ground up. A converted pool will struggle in ways a properly engineered one never does. Better not to start.

Often part of something larger

A Bio Swimming Pool can stand alone, or it can anchor a larger water landscape.  A cascade through the entry court. A koi pond by the verandah. A stream linking the pool to a planted lake at the far end of the property.

Every element can be designed and engineered as one continuous system.

  • A tiled, structured swimming pool filtered biologically instead of with chlorine. It looks and feels like a conventional modern pool, but the water is kept clear by a planted regeneration zone, mineral substrates, and a UV stage, not by chemistry.

  • Both are chemical-free, but they look and feel very different. A Bio Swimming Pool is tiled, structured, and reads as a modern pool — the biology sits hidden inside the civil structure. A Bio Swim Pond is shaped from the landscape, with stone edges and planted margins, and the biology is visible.

  • No. The water in a Bio Swimming Pool is as clear as in any high-end chlorinated pool, water reflects the colour of the tiles installed in the pool. The swim zone is tiled and open. The planting that does the filtration work sits in a separate regeneration zone, designed to be either a visible feature or completely out of sight.

  • Yes. Ours are engineered for local conditions — high ambient temperatures, monsoon load, evaporation rates, and the specific water chemistry of Indian boreholes and municipal supply. The biological and UV systems are sized for the climate they're built in.

  • Bio Swimming Pools start at ₹25 Lakhs. Where a specific project lands depends on size, finishes, site conditions, and any connected features — cascades, spas, integrated water landscapes. You'll have a firm number after the Project Assessment, not before.

  • Less than a chlorinated pool, and of a different kind. No daily chemistry, no chlorine to add, no shock treatments. You'll clear the skimmers, scrub the walls  and have the regeneration zone tended seasonally. Running costs are significantly lower than a comparable conventional pool.

  • No. We build new only. The biology and hydraulics have to be designed together from the ground up — substrate volumes, regeneration sizing, flow rates. Retrofits don't perform the way an engineered system does.

  • Typically two to three months from design sign-off to handover, depending on size, site access, and finish complexity. The biological system then takes a few weeks to establish.

  • OASE pumps as standard — German-engineered, quiet, built for continuous duty and high efficiency. UV systems, controls, and the rest of the hydraulic scheme are specified by us, sized to the project.

Start with an assessment

Before any drawing, before any quote — we evaluate site, brief, and budget against what the engineering requires.  If the fit is right, we proceed. If it isn't, we say so.
